"Colored Giants Will Play Series at Hibbing - Hibbing, August 20. - With a lineup able to clean up the majority of independent teams throughout the United States, the Chicago Colored Giants arrived in Hibbing today for a series of three games. The Giants have not been defeated by a Minnesota team. That they will have their hands full with the Hibbing clan, is the opinion of fans here, who are confident that the locals will take at least two of the series if they don't make a clean sweep."

"Union Giants Trim Hibbing Colts in City - Led by Centerfielder Lynch, who smashed two home runs, one with a runner on base, the Chicago Union Giants yesterday afternoon trounced Judge Brady's Hibbing Colts at Oliver Park 12 to 6. It was a slugfest, and Pitchers Wilson and Williams of the Hibbing team were hit hard and often. Both teams went scoreless until the third inning when three singles and two miscues gave the Giants four tallies. The Hibbing Colts came back in their half of the inning with two runs. Persch, who led the Colts in hitting, doubled to centerfield and scored on Williams' single. Williams was caught at third on Fautsch's grounder. Edmunds' one-base blow tallied Fautsch. In the fourth inning the Colts tied the score. Wilson reached first on a fielder's choice and then Persch sent the first of the three home runs of the game over the left field fence. The fifth witnessed Lynch's home run with Coleman on base. Peters was hit by a pitched ball and went to third on a single. He registered on a wild pitch. The Colts came back int he sixth stanza with two tallies. Brookins doubled and scored when Shortstop Peters booted Persch's grounder. Persch tallied on Williams' single past third. In the seventh the Giants boosted their total to 10 runs. A single, a pass, a triple and misplays were responsible for the Giants' three new runs. In the eighth Lynch got his second home run. 'You better walk him,' advised a darky coach. 'I'll walk nobody,' retorted pitcher Williams. The next ball went sailing over the centerfield fence and Lynch ran gaily around the sacks for the Giants' eleventh run of the game. In the ninth Second baseman Williams of the Giants was hit by a pitched ball and stole second. He scored on Pitcher Hill's single."

"Three Game Series May Close Hibbing Season - Hibbing, August 26. - Starting tomorrow Hibbing baseball fans will see one of the last games to be played here this season. The Chicago Colored Giants, considered one of the fastest independent teams, will oppose Brady's Colts. In the game at Virginia the Colts, crippled by the loss of Carroll Booth at second base and Bob Geiselman in right, field, and Captain Edmunds, backstop and mainstay, who played right field, but was unable to catch because of a sore hand, were defeated by the Giants by a score of 12 to 6. Wilson started the game for the Hibbing nine, but was replaced by Williams. Kriz of Chisholm caught. It is probable, according to Judge Brady, that the Sunday game will be the last game here this season. It is expected that one of the largest crowds of the season will attend. Judge Brady has announced that all games will begin at 3 o'clock."

"Chicago Union Giants Play Storz This Week - Now that the Rourkes have departed to cast their fortunes abroad, Fred Bradford's Stars will appear at the Rourke Yard and on Saturday and Sunday the Chicago Union Giants, the pioneer colored organization, and considered the most formidable of them all now on the road, will be entertained. The Storz have created a lot of interest in their clashes with the colored traveling teams, as evidenced by the large assemblages that have attended the games in the past. Manager Bradford has annexed Eddie Roben of the defunct Grand Island club to succeed Doc Welch, who has retired from the game."

"Storz Victorious Over Union Giants - By compiling a safe majority in the early part of the game, the Storz won from the Union Giants in the initial game at Rourke Park, by a score of 7 to 4. The Brewers were in need of the large margin, as the Giants were beginning to take a liking to Hay's slants. The ebony-hued gents outhit the Storz almost two to one, but were unable to bunch them on account of the effective work in the pinches by the stocky Storz slabber. After getting their poor work out of their system, the Giants exhibited their true ability. Bingham, the comedian of the colored crew, nabbed Graham's high fly against the right field fence with one paw, in the fifth. Again in the seventh, Turner made a spectacular catch of a foul, while running full speed against the right field bleachers. The Storz presented a somewhat changed appearance with Dygert behind the mask and pad and Eddie Roben in center. Dygert held Hay up in good fashion, while Roben busted three safeties during the course of the afternoon."

With the arrival of Johnson, Payne will return to his regular position in left field. Olson, whose magnificent pitching was a great factor in the winning of the first game of last Sunday's double bill, will be held to oppose Simpson, who had the locals at his mercy in the final contest."
