"Royal Americans Defeat the Fast Pickwicks. - The hard hitting Royal American baseball club, of Kansas City, defeated the fast Pickwicks in a hard fought and exciting 12-inning game Sunday at Schemelzer's Park, by the score of 8 to 5. Features of the game were the hitting and fielding of Davis at third base for the Royals and the work of Smith and Love in the outfield. Daddy Freeman pitched a wonderful game, letting the visitors down with 3 hits. Next Sunday, June 13, the Royal Americans play the Fords at Association Park."

"The Go-Devils in Big Series. - Manager Grubbs Will Try to Enter His Team in Kansas City Tourney. - Manager Grubbs said today that he was going to make every effort to take the Go-Devils to Kansas City next Sunday and Monday to enter the Western elimination games for the world's series between negro ball clubs. If he is sure of the trip he will select his players tomorrow or Wednesday. Negro baseball teams which are scheduled to appear in the Western division eliminiation games at Association Park next Sunday and Labor Day have begun to strengthen their personnel. Bud Phillips, manager of the St. Louis Gaints, is negotiating with John Donaldson, considered the crack negro pitcher of America, and it is expected that Donaldson will sign with him. Jack Johnson, the Topeka first baseman, also among the players who will take part. Elimination games also will be played in St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Chicago. The world's series for negro teams will be played in Chicago in October between the clubs taking part in the elimination tourneys. The St. Louis Giants will play the Kansas City, Kansas Giants in next Sunday's double header. The second contest will be between the Lexington Tigers and the Royal Americans. In the morning game, Labor Day the Iola Go-Devils will play the Topeka Giants. A double header will be staged in the afternoon Labor Day. The first contest will be between the winners of Sunday's games. The second will be contested by the winner of the first game and the winning club in the morning game. The final winner will represent Kansas City at the Chicago games."

Negro Baseball Tourney to be Held in Kansas City. - The management of the Negro baseball tournament announces that all teams for the big baseball carnival to be pulled off at Association Park Sunday, September 5 and 6, which includes Labor Day, have signed up and are getting their players whipped into fine condition for the final battles. Word from Iola, Kansas, where the fast Go Devils make their home, is to effect they are coming with the intention of winning the bacon. Brooks Lane, the manager of the Iola club, is scouring Southern Kansas and Northern Oklahoma for talent and says he wants to win so he can make the trip to Chicago for the final Negro World Series. Bud Phillips, who handles the reins of the fast St. Joseph Giants, is leaving nothing undone to bring a fast bunch to represent the upriver town. Mr. Phillips is arranging to bring along a large number of St. Joseph fans. A special car on the elecrric line will be chartered. The Atchison Nationals say they will be the big surprise of the series. It has been whispered about that Big John Donaldson, with the All Nations, is the dark horse. Every Colored fan of both Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri, know what to expect of the Topeka Giants, as their manager, Jack Johnson, always has a good bunch. The Lexington Tigers, managed by Speed Boy Lindsay, will not be overlooked. The Tigers know what it means to get to make that Chicago trip this fall. The Royal Americans and Kansas City, Kansas Giants are hustling to strengthen their teams. Several Texas leaguers have been added to their ranks during the past few days, and in all, the tournament looks like the real thing for the Colored fans - something new and something to stimulate interest and at the same time develop professional Colored ball players. If the people turn out to this high grade semi-pro ball, there is no doubt but what the Kansas City Colored folk will see a brand of league ball in Kansas City before many moons. Excursions will be run from Iola, Topeka, St. Joseph and Lexington, Missouri."
