New Orleans, LA
"The Eagles Wish Booking - Crescent City Boys to Have Strong Nine - Would Meet the Fastest. - Special to the Freeman. - New Orleans, Louisiana - The Eagles will have a strong team this year. Already there are enough candidates trying to make good to organize three nines. From this bunch, Charles Stevens, manager, will be able to pick a first-class fast team. The Eagles will tour the North, East and West and will be ready to meet the best. The Eagles would like to communicate with the Leland Giants and the Chicago Unions; Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Dayton, Ohio boys; Brooklyn Royal Giants and Cuban Giants of New York; Terre Haute and the fast A.B.C. team of the Hoosier State; Louisville, Kentucky cracks and any other classy team. The Dixieland boys are respectable fellows. Headquarters, 1236 Eagle Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. They start the '09 season by saing: 'All we ask is booking; we do the rest.'"

"The Eagles, of New Orleans, will make their annual tour in Texas the first of May."

"Eagles in Spring Training. - Manager Stevens Has Twenty-Seven Candidates with Class. - Special to the Freeman. - New Orleans. - The Eagles have started in Spring Training with twenty-seven candidates in line. The bunch looks good. All the old men have reported, with the exception of Captain George Wilson, who is out with an injured leg, but he is expected to be in good shape soon. Now it looks as if the infield lineup will be Walker, first base; Wilson, second base; Handy, third base; Pringle, shortstop; which is a strong combination. Stevenson, the old reliable ball-eating jack, seems to have a cinch on the left garden, and Lucien has a tight grip on the pivot field. Kid Vining, the boy fielder, will be seen in right field. The only Zozo will be behind the bat. As to whom will be the twirlers is yet to be known, as none of the candidates have shown their best form, but Manager Charles Stevens will make his selection in time for an Easter game."

"Bronchos Make Eagles Fly. - Rob Nest of Big Birds of the Air for Two Eggs Decoration Day. - Special to the Freeman. - San Antonio, Texas. - Two lusty falls were taken out of the New Orleans Black Eagles Monday week in the double-header at the ball park. The Black Bronchos did the trick, and the scores were 5 to 0 and 9 to 1. Utterly unable to get any kind of action against the locals, the Pelican crowd was outclassed all the way. Their pitchers were slaughtered, and they were unable to get at either Cyclone Joe or Spider Moonie in the two battles. Cyclone was the big breeze on the strip in the first game. He allowed one little skinny hit and fanned fourteen batters. For several innings it looked like a real tight ball game, with the locals in the lead, 1 to 0, but in the eighth they fell on Joseph for four runs off five hits and an error. The Black Bronchos played an errorless contest. Moonie was discovered in the second game at intervals, but his support saved him any trouble that might have developed, while that given the two slabmen for the other team was very shaky. Bright spots for the New Orleans team were three fast double plays, two of which came at the proper moment in the first contest. A large crowd saw the games."
