"Thomas and Clark Lose to Giants. - Colored Team Victor in Opening Contest 8-0. - Springfield, Illinois, September 7. - The Union giants were the victors over the Thomas and Clark team in the opening game of their series at the T. and C. diamond. The final score was 8 to 0, and the game was unusually interesting until the eighth round when the Giants shoved five men across the plate. Poston was in rare form and wiffed ten T. and C. boys and yielded but two safe blows, which failed to cause any damage. Pitt was hammered hard in every session. The two teams play next Sunday at the Giant Park. The Street Car Men take on the colored boys this afternoon at the latter diamond."

"Union Giants Slam Decatur Browns. - Springfield, Illinois - Special - For the second time this season the Giants of Springfield, Illinois trimmed the Decatur Browns, of the same state. Portam, pitching, and his pal Leslie Jones, catching, were too foxy for the visitors. Portam with thirteen strikeouts to his credit would have scored another shutout, but for Henrichson's bone-head play at third base, which marred the game, severe changes on the Giants' team would strengthen the club very much. Manager Mitchell, take notice. Attendance, 700."
