"Richmond Winner in Slugging Bee - Defeated the Strong A.B.C. Club of Indianapolis Sunday 10 to 6. - Pitcher Babe Walters sprained his back about two weeks ago, but in spite of this handicap, he held the A.B.C.'s of Indianapolis to ten hits and won his game for Richmond, Sunday. Walters weakened in the sixth and the visitors pounced upon him, jolting five runs over the pan, to the great mental anguish of the eight hundred fans. This gave the Indianapolis outfit a lead of four runs. But in the last half of the sixth the locals rallied and added another run to their collection, a forerunner of the deluge that was to come in the seventh, when out boys tuned up their batting eyes and pounded seven counters over the plate, sending pitcher Griffin to the bench. West took his place, and was effective - but Richmond had the game safely stowed away. In the seventh the locals batted around nearly twice, Coblentz getting a three bagger and a single and Slarp two singles in that inning. The game was a hard hitting contest all the way through and not very well played."
