"Colored Championship at Stake. - Next Sunday at Union League Park, Fifteenth and H streets northeast, the opening game of the season for the colored championship will take place, when the two best colored teams in the District, the Capital City Cubs and the ex-Washington Giants, clash at 3 o'clock."

"Fast Colored Game - What promises to be an exciting ball game will be played Sunday at Union League Park, 15th and H streets northeast, at 3 o'clock, when the Capital City Cubs, the champions of the southwest, get tangled up with the ex-Washington Giants in the first of a series of games for the local colored championship."

"Local Giants Start Work. - Yesterday the Washington Giants began practice at Union League Park, which has been obtained by them for all Sunday and holiday games, beginning May 5. The team will be captained by Clark, last year with the Cuban Giants. The old players retained are Carroll, Jackson, Big Adams, Johnson, Boone, Tyler, Mason, Akers, and Givens. A number of good men are being tried out. the first game will be May 5 with the Maryland Meters, a semi-professional white team of Baltimore. Some of the best semi-professional teams will play here during the season. The Cuban Stars will for the first time be seen here, bringing with them Mendez, the black Matthewson."

"Giants Play Baltimore Team. - The semi-pro game booked for tomorrow at Union League Park between the Washington Giants and the Baltimore Weldon Giants should prove a hot contest, as the two teams are great rivals. Tomorrow week the local Giants will play in New York City against the World's Colored Champions, the Lincoln Giants, the game booked here with the Royals being postponed. The following Sunday they will play here against the Cherokee Indians. Tomorrow's game will be a double-header, the first contest starting at 2 o'clock sharp."
