Philip, SD
"Good game of base ball Friday, July 1st. Tennessee Rats vs Philip. - Remember the ball game tomorrow afternoon. The fast colored team will clash with the local boys and a sizzling hot game is anticipated. Come out and root for the home boys."

Philip, SD
"Tennessee Rats Scalped - The fast colored base ball aggregation which camped in our city last week Friday were trimmed up by 8 to 14. Loutzenheiser was on the slab for the locals while Ramsey done the receiving at the other end, and it sure seemed like old times to see Claud once more behind the bat. Philip scored in the first and held the lead for a few innings and then the brownies had a batting streak and before the locals could stop the slaughter 8 of the dusky ones had crossed the plate and it looked for a time as though the game was clinched. But the Philipinoes became hammering the horsehide sphere and shot past the visitors and run the score up to fourteen runs. Loutzenheiser showed up good in the box and aside from a wild spell occasionally, pitched good consistent ball. Ramsey's catching was good and the error column small for the locals while the coons had a small basket full. The crowd was small but those who attended got their money's worth. With the exception of one decision the umpire showed himself to be fair and impartial. The colored boys seemed to be quite good natured fellows and played clean ball. Remember the next game with Brushie on July 10."

Chicago, IL
"On Monday of this week the Chicago Baseball League passed a rule barring games between its members and all visiting colored ball clubs from now on, the rule being made to include the Cuban clubs that have been playing around the circuit the past two years. The rule will work very badly against the Stars of Cuba, who figured on playing on the Chicago League Circuit after the Cuban Stars left the city. This action means that the Chicago Leaguers will not play visiting colored teams any more in the future."
