"The first game of the Florida Hotel League was played Tuesday, February 5, between the breakers and Poinciana, and was won by Captain Mac Collan's Breaker team. The feature of the game was Bowman's home run in the first inning, with three men on base. Earl, of the Poinciana, was relieved by Anderson, who finished the game. Bradley was badly hurt in the third inning. The score: Breakers 10, Poinciana 5."

"Winter Baseball at Palm Beach - Rube Foster is to Have a First-Class Club in Florida - By Harry Daniels. - Special to the Freeman. - New York, NY, December 17. - It has been finally decided by the controllers of baseball in Palm Beach, Florida, to have only two teams instead of three this season, one the Breakers managed by Harry E. Buckner and Dannie MacClellan, and the Royal Poinciana, managed by the most noted colored player of the present day, Andrew Rube Foster. After considerable effort Buckner, known as Iron Man Buck, has signed the following players: Bradley and James, catchers; Earl Thomas, Buckner, Bowman and McClellan, pitchers. Al Robinson, whom there was more trouble in signing than all other players, as Foster was after his services; also Monroe, the great comedian of baseball, Munyon and Francis will be the infielders; Dunbar, Brown and Braggs, outfielders; Dunbar, Brown and Braggs, outfielders. Foster's Poinciana team so far as signed are Booker of the Lelands; Pettis, of Kansas City, Catchers; Doughtery, Morman and Foster of the Lelands, Gatewood of the Keystones and Steel Arm Johnny Taylor, the sensation of the past season in the middle West, of the St. Paul Gophers, pitchers. Bobby Marshall of the Gophers, Harris of the Lelands, Hutchinson, of the coast wonder, and Pryor of the Chicago Unions, infielders, and Rebel Duncan, of the Philadelphia Giants, Payne and Barton of the Lelands, outfielders. These are about the two best teams ever played in Palm Beach. All plans are complete between the owners of grounds in and around New York City to form an eight-club league composed of the following clubs: Ridgewood, Hoboken, Bronx, Oval A.A., Long Island City and New Brunswick, the home teams and the Philadelphia and Royal Giants and Cuban stars as visiting teams. As to how many games are to be played in the league, that will come up at the next meeting. The Pittsburg Giants of New York City will tour through the middle West next season, booked by Nat C. Strong. The team will be under the management of Harry A. Smith, formerly with the Philadelphia, Royal and Cuban X Giants teams."
